Yeah he’s mentioned it before how he had to sneak watching Star Trek and TNG while his dad slept on the couch which is weird. Also why was his dad sleeping on the couch so much? Nobody told him he wasn’t allowed to watch it - the show was never considered inappropriate for any ages. They made toys for the show meaning it was pretty much for kids.

Maybe he means he had to sneak watch it while his drunk dad was passed out on the couch at night during re-runs? Pat was up past his bed time which lead to him missing so much school because Patty boy didn’t get enough sleep.

Sulu wasn't homosexual, they only recently turned the character gay in the last reboot movie. Takei was actually against it too.

From how he describes his dad it sounds like he had a real problem holding a job which explains why he seemed to be sleeping passed out drunk on the couch so often. Pat grew up poor and his parents live pretty much a double wide with a dirt driveway
