How to fix being in a low-energy ADHD haze?

My whole life I’ve had this issue. I’ll spend a large amount of my time doing nothing, thinking nothing, just being zoned out in a low-energy state.

Sometimes I can snap myself out of it and get some momentum going by forcing activity, but other times I feel like I barely do anything in a day beyond the bare minimum.

I’m never going to take stimulants daily again in my life. Wellbutrin is better than nothing but it’s no silver bullet.

I have been relying on caffeine (garbage), preworkouts, and ECA on rare occasion to force some action.

I live pretty clean overall. Sleep could be better but I always get at least 7, I try for 8+.

I think I’ve accomplished a lot in my life but I feel held back from my highest potential by this.

Any of you faggots deal with this and figure anything out?

You described my 15-year-old son's ADHD to a T. I've pretty much given up on him attending a four-year college, mostly because I don't think he would even bother getting out of bed in the morning. And he just completely zones out or walks away after a few minutes whenever I try to help him with homework or study for a test. Now I'm getting concerned whether he'll ever be able to hold down any kind of a job. He's been titrated up to the maximum adult doses of stimulant and non-stimulant ADHD medicines, and they still do practically nothing for him. He'll probably end up spending all his time on Owen and figure out that his dad wants to build blacks better.
That’s interesting, you tried adderall I’m assuming by that story?

I believe they call this type of ADHD “primarily inattentive”. I have tried pretty much everything and Adderall worked very well for me, but it also made me an asshole.

It seems like drugs that have a stronger adrenergic response or norepinephrine response work better, for me at least. It has to produce a bit of body energy for me to get going. Stims like Dexedrine didn’t work as well. Just something to consider for your little dude if you’re still medicating.

Exercise - particularly cardio - also seems to help a lot, but it’s tough to get the momentum going on that.

And don’t give up on him. I made it to a semi-prestigious career that pays well, I have a doctorate in something and if you knew me when I was 15 you would have predicted that I would work in a junkyard.

Edit: and try not to get too frustrated with him. It’s kind of hell living like this sometimes, especially as a kid or teen.

If you're taking Wellbutrin you're probably not getting a good night's sleep. My ex used to take it and no matter how long she slept she was always tired. I tried to tell her she was always talking in her sleep and acting restless but she didn't believe me. Then one time I was out of Adderall and took her Wellbutrin for a week and realized that it gives you really vivid dreams and I never got a good night's sleep. Now I take my Adderall for 2 days then take a day off. That plus eating an orange and banana with a vitamin water for breakfast everyday seems to have helped me not have any of that haze.

That’s interesting. I may try dropping from the 300mg XL down to a 150mg SR and see if I’m sleeping better. I don’t usually feel refreshed or good in the morning, but I also never really have in my life.

I can’t go back on adderall. I used to crush up 120mg of my XR with a mortar and pestle, dissolve it in water, filter it through a cotton and plug it just to get out of bed and get going in the morning. Didn’t even really get me high.

Thanks for the input, I’ll play around with the Wellbutrin dose, maybe even try discontinuing it for a couple months.

The most cliche and faggot answer unfortunately, but you need to get on a good exercise/diet regimen, for some people that's keto/carnivore/lowcarb, especially if you're on a blood sugar roller-coaster throughout the day. Oh and those prescription drugs are probably fucking you up and distorting all of your neurotransmitters and create dependency which compounds the problem. You didn't know all of that mumbo jumbo is just a racket for the jews??

I workout a lot. I’m pretty low body fat and pretty good shape for 39. I do cardio and lift, more overall athletic conditioning type of shit. 4-5 days a week lifting or conditioning, and I try to run a 5k every single day.

You may be right about the diet. I’m primarily protein based, but I do think I’m on a blood-sugar roller coaster.

Do you find yourself binging on carbs, especially late at night? Oh and you could actually be over-training, but that usually comes with alot of other symptoms too. See if taking a week off working out makes things better... alot of people are neurotic about training and feel guilty if they miss a workout which can contribute to burnout if it continues too long. If you're dependent on stims that's a really bad place to be and non sustainable. See if you can really try tapering off slowly.

I do sometimes have the carb binges at night.

There’s no way I can take a week off working out. I would become mentally despondent. I could cut it back but I could not just stop.

Religiously. I put on my NPS greatest hits playlist and go for a PR every time.
Okay then. I know you're close to 40, brother. If you're eating healthy, working out, pounding puss, you should be fine. Maybe look into getting your test levels checked. Even if you have all your hair and have decent muscle size, your levels could still be potentially fucking with you.

Regardless of what marks think here being alpha brain gorillas, all men, regardless of their overall health and fitness start producing lower test from their 20s onward.

I’ve started checking it yearly. Couple years ago it was 590, last year it was 390. I see my doc next month and I’m gonna check it again. Maybe getting laid again has bumped it back up.

WWAWD Dr. Berg?

Despite having the last name Berg, being a Youtuber and a Scientologist (?), I think a lot of his diet advice seems legit. Maybe I'm a mark falling for his presentation style, but anyone that's not pushing pharmaceuticals to try to solve ailments is more believable than some faggot saying you need to be on speed to fix your attention span. By the way, take a guess as to what country the makers of Adderall are based in.
