How many of you believe in UFO’s?

ARE THEY OUT THERE?

my dad's best friend was abducted back in the 80s. He woke up naked in the forest and 3 days had passed. At first he didn't remember anything but eventually he started having flashbacks of experiments that the aliens had performed on him. He's had all kinds of health problems that doctors can't explain and I'm just hoping that the government will give him the answers that he is owed before it is too late.
Those weren't aliens but his gay friends and the health complications stem from that.

"Experimentation" lol.

A UFO is literally anything in the sky that hasn’t been identified, the name doesn’t imply aliens. I’m way more inclined to believe that what we’ve seen are nightmarish military technologies we don’t know about. However advanced you think the militaries of the world are, they probably have clandestine killing machines that are 50 years beyond that

If you want to be a technical douche about it: of course UFOs/UAPs exist because by definition they're just unidentified shit observed in the sky, we'll never have a 100% certain explanation for everything weird that people noticed.

Do I think they're more than just misidentified, 'nornal' shit? The latest stuff coming out does seem to point that way, with a lotta evidence that can't be easily handwaved away and government acknowledgement and probing. It doesn't mean it necessarily has to involve ayylmaos, it might be some scientific phenomenon.
I think one of the biggest pieces of evidence for UFO’s beyond actual sightings of them is the talk put up in the government about it. We have feds coming out and saying “There is a reverse crash retrieval program kept out of even the Fed and congreses eyes”. And they’re not just saying this but taking steps to unveil said programs. Its notable that none of these guys are doing this because “Well humans just need to know! Aliens are real” but it comes from the exact fed point of view: “This is out of government oversight, Congress needs to know”

If the UFO experts came out and said - "look, this is mostly just measurement errors and natural phenomena - this stuff is going to happen, but it doesn't really mean anything." the government would have significantly less reason to pay people to be UFO experts. A good "experts" job is to justify said job existing.

This makes sense until you realize the mock example you used is exactly what these experts have been saying. The conclusion of every Government funded UFO study since the 40’s has been exactly what you said “look, this is mostly just measurement errors and natural phenomena - this stuff is going to happen, but it doesn't really mean anything”. The only thing that keeps these UFO projects funded isn’t the scientists saying “We need more money and data to study this because we don’t know yet!”, it’s always the public making an outcry for 10 years before the Gov allocates money for it.

And not to mention the “experts” referenced aren’t UFO experts. They’re usually experts in aerospace, astronomy, intelligence gathering, pilots, etc etc. If their careers hinged on the existence of UFO’s to get paid I could understand that theory, but most of the time it’s a side gig they get pulled on every decade for some perspective.

My dad would listen to everything about UFOs and even though he believed in aliens, he said that there's no way an advanced civilization could crash land or be observed by our gear. So no.

This is an incredibly straightforward and basic approach to this thought experiment but it does raise a very good point.

- why do extra-terrestrials not use cloaking technology when they visit us?

Are they dropping hints?? Are they like a single woman over 30 who wants you to make the first move?? C'mon.

Although, perhaps there are an essentially infinite number of more advanced species across all dimensions and times. So some of them send down a single atom that is capable of recording everything we do across all spectrums without being observed, then there are the prick-teasing aliens.

For those referencing ET’s still i will quote Jacques Valee who proposed the Interdimensional Hypothesis:

Scientific opinion has generally followed public opinion in the belief that unidentified flying objects either do not exist (the "natural phenomena hypothesis") or, if they do, must represent evidence of a visitation by some advanced race of space travellers (the extraterrestrial hypothesis or "ETH"). It is the view of the author that research on UFOs need not be restricted to these two alternatives. On the contrary, the accumulated data base exhibits several patterns tending to indicate that UFOs are real, represent a previously unrecognized phenomenon, and that the facts do not support the common concept of "space visitors". Five specific arguments articulated here contradict the ETH:

  1. unexplained close encounters are far more numerous than required for any physical survey of the earth;
  2. the humanoid body structure of the alleged "aliens" is not likely to have originated on another planet and is not biologically adapted to space travel;
  3. the reported behavior in thousands of abduction reports contradicts the hypothesis of genetic or scientific experimentation on humans by an advanced race;
  4. the extension of the phenomenon throughout recorded human history demonstrates that UFOs are not a contemporary phenomenon; and
  5. the apparent ability of UFOs to manipulate space and time suggests radically different and richer alternatives.

We can send stuff into the solar system and beyond to monitor planets and stars. We have drones and can intercept communications. These intergalactic beings probably could do that too if they had worked out how to travel vast distances

Hard to tell, seeing as we're just a Type 0 civilization
