I once ran into David Arquette at an event for Johnny Ramone in LA about 15 years ago. He’s just as goofy as you’d imagine. I had to help him use one of those portable sinks (it was an outdoor event) because he couldn’t figure out simple instructions. His sister Rosanna was also there but I didn’t get to talk to her.

He strikes me as someone who's hit their head a lot.

It was an event at the Hollywood Forever cemetery where it’s pretty much all celebrities (only in Hollywood could a cemetery be a tourist attraction and event space) and he was trying to figure out how to use those plastic water fountains you see at outdoor festivals where you have step on a peddle to get the water to come out. Well this was too difficult for David to figure out so I had to show him how to use it and the whole time he was giggling and saying “what is that hahahaha how does this work hahahah I don’t get it hahahaha”

Super nice guy. Ended up talking to him on the phone at work years back, trying to keep a straight face that I was talking to the Fonz. At the same job I spoke w/Chuck Dukowski (Black Flag) a couple of times. One time he started talking about running a label and I resisted telling him of that he put out some of my favorite records from like Dino Jr, the Meat Puppets, Screaming Trees, etc.

I also ran into Owen Wilson at an art installation in Tokyo a few years back. Well, I saw him on the way in and made it a point to steer clear. Not be that guy. Made it a point not to interact or look. Anyhow, it was kinda dark and there were a lot of small rooms, projections, etc. Hard to see. Walked into a room and ended up standing next to this guy super-entranced in some animated tiger. I turned and it was him. Again, I didn't interact, but I found it charming at the pure, childish look of amazement that he had on his face. He was fucking loving it.

I've told the story a bunch but one time I saw Dan Aykroyd at a stop light. My window was down and I was like to my buddy "Holy shit, that's Dan Aykroyd." He heard me and looked right at me and I didn't know what to do or say so I flipped him off and he held his hands up and gave me like a "what the fuck?" expression. I like Dan Aykroyd.

Why wouldn't you acknowledge any of that to either of those people?

Eh, there was no point. Although in retrospect Chuck may have appreciated it. In all cases I was caught off-guard anyhow, as picking up a phone wasn't normally a part of my job. I was pretty behind-the-scenes, and just picked up if things were busy.

Almost no one, except piece of shit sportsball fags, doesn't mind hearing "hey, good job"

Through work I met the two Japanese girls from PuffyAmiYumi about 20 years ago when their cartoon show came out in the US, gave them a tour and then there was some long meeting. They were very nice but tough to communicate with not because they only spoke Japanese but because they had some record company asshole trying to insert himself into every conversation the whole time. They didn't karate chop me in the balls, anyway.
