It goes on and on. The awful Apatow comedy era started around here too. Big brand movies, romcoms, stoner movies, action, there was a shocking amount of bad stuff.

But even so, it’s not as bad as today’s superhero saturation and social lecture films.
Unbreakable was a good movie

Good ones are out there but they're often not the ones getting the majority of advertisement. And, if we're to be frank, studios don't want to risk releasing something that can't compete with a tentpole because it's a throwaway investment, sadly.

I'd like to believe with capeshit starting to bomb, studios are ready to push mid budget to low budget films again for a high return potential, but where it's really lacking is in comedy. People are too afraid to push even a little. Fucking shame, really.

Also, if you want to watch a good movie, watch the original House of Wax. It's Halloween, lad, everyone needs some Vincent Price on this day.

I think the success of the MCU has had disastrous consequences for movies. Now everyone is trying to chase their high by making the same bland movies, that appeal to the lowest common denominator, over and over again. Everything needs to be extremely simple so that even Chinese six year olds will understand what's going on at all times. Have 2D characters because you don't want to humanize a villain or portray a good guy as not pure. Abandon comedies, adventure movies, etc and instead incorporate them into your mediocre action movies. They even tried to do that with horror with that Mummy reboot.

Even worse is we now have movie critics that praise every capeshit marvel movie as “the BEST marvel movie yet!” until the next one comes out. The Marvel movies are all exactly the same formula and somehow is seen as the pinnacle of cinema. Even George Lucas has said his movies are westerns set in space but now we’re told these movies with men in capes are very deep with meaning. Now it’s pretty much every new movie will suck and it’s surprising to actually see something good.

I remember about the time i started going to the movies on my own and hating everything. I saw the Austin Powers movie (second one) which was okay and then I think I was bored by just about everything I saw since. I went to see some Will Smith movie once with a girl from my class and the theatre was doing some sort of day out for retards at the same time. They were all moaning and doing that aaaaaghhghg thing they do. I left and asked for my money back, and the girl told everyone at school I was arguing with retards (no it was the attendant) and I spent the next semester known as the guy who lost an argument with a retard. Also i didn't get my refund and the cunt still let me take her to Mcdonalds after like she didn't have a problem with anything. I think I've been dragged to the cinema twice since then in the last 20+ years. Neither time did I watch something I wanted to see.

Okay faggot what’s next!?

That’s the thing, I don’t know! Nothing probably. It isn’t suddenly going to get better. I’m a man who enjoys art and there’s no art left. I get drunk and tell myself stories that I think of off the top of my head. I seriously do that. I told myself a story the other day about a couple who gets home invaded.

They’re about to go to sleep they check on their nearly grown son with Down syndrome then go upstairs. They’re talking and getting ready to go to sleep when their son comes up into their room and says over and over “there’s a black guy taking a shit there’s a black guy taking a shit there’s a black guy taking a shit”

That’s when the terror kicks in because he clearly doesn’t grasp the concept of jokes and lacks the mental scope for pranks. So if your retarded son with Down syndrome says there’s a black guy taking a shit. That means he seen that guy and he’s in your house taking a shit. I got to that point felt the fear they must’ve. I laughed and moved on.

You know what I didn’t do? Watch a fucking movie.
The black guy was incapacitated from eating their son's Adam Libby style casserole (with boogers and pennies)

I saw a few videos on this, and it's essentially because the mid budget movie has all but been erased.

Disney used to have Touchstone as it's more adult movie studio, but that got axed recently. Everyone wants to make a billion dollars and so you have to spend hundreds of millions to get there, which also means you have to make hundreds and hundreds of millions at the box office to make a profit. Studios see Marvel and Lucasfilms and don't want to blow money on a mod budget with actual characters and good dialogue, but at least A24 and others are out there.

I try to keep up with YMS and his reviews of film festival films so I can at least find something different, but my attitude towards film entertainment has shifted to it has to be amazing for me to stop doing outside work or hobbies. Much better for my mental clarity than having to sift through shit every other night to find something to watch.

As for anime, there are great ones out there. I chose one month a year to go through and find one I like and binge it. Getting into the older stuff every now and then. Somehow managed to actually like Baki for how fucking ridiculous it is. My sons like it too and we can laugh at it together. Kingdom has been really good too, though the animation in the first season is dog shit.

I think part of the problem is those Marvel movies do humanize too many of their villains. They don’t want anyone to be too evil because they don’t want real stakes.

I haven’t watched one for a few years but even Thanos was wiping out half the universe to save it. In the comics, that was a bullshit lie he told the Silver Surfer because the Silver Surfer is a gullible retard (like the current writers and audience) and that mongoloid didn’t fall for it.

They also make (primarily the female) heroes do petty shit that isn’t heroic but don’t call them out in the story for it. It’s just pathetic people living out their power fantasies like Captain Marvel beating up a guy for flirting with her.

I don’t know what the answer is other than don’t go to anything the first weekend. Wait to hear how it was from a trusted source.

I also blame it on the Oscars for the past 15 years nominating movies for best picture that were shit and were barely seen. You got movies that will win best picture that are forgotten a month later. You look at best picture winners from over the decades and from the 60s to the 90 / 2000s you’ve got movies nominated that are great and you can still watch that are very well known Go back for 10 - 15 years and it’s mostly stuff that nobody has seen or talked about since. Remember the Artist? Nobody has mentioned that movie since it won, same with Moonlight.
