Pat really latches on to whatever community he's LARPing in at the moment. He made posts about not getting into a war of words with a stand-up comic, as if he was one. He'd talk about 'life as an author' as if he was one. When he started 'running' mini marathons he became a runner, just like those that compete in full marathons and make it a huge part of their life. Endurance athletes will often peak for certain events, targeting that as the time they'll be in their best shape and allowing themselves to go into off season mode once that event is completed. Safe to assume Pat viewed winter as his off season so he could eat and drink whatever he wanted. The only problem with that, sweetie, is that he'd never actually lose the weight or get in shape.
