Some girl in my high school from Sri Lanka lost her entire family, other than an uncle, in that tsunami. I don't think I'll ever meet someone else who lost their entire family lineage in one catastrophe.
She had only been living here for a few years and likely would have died the same way if she, her sister, and parents hadn't immigrated to the US.
