GenCon Writer's Symposium future uncertain

Good. There doesn’t need to be a writing symposium at a table top gaming convention. The only authors that should even be allowed there in a professional capacity are guys who wrote for stuff like Dungeons & Dragons and Warhammer or any of the novel tie-ins.

I'm 50+, it's hilarious how this industry has devolved.

One time when I was in my teens, I saw this sad sack who was hawking books out of the corner of a booth at Comic Con. The booth was from "Bud Plant," a comic book distributor in California. The sad sack was trying to sell a book called "Life in Hell."

I went and talked to him for a few minutes, because he just looked miserable. Nobody was buying his book. I bought a copy, I think it was ten bucks.

You may be familiar with his work, he's swimming in money now. Matt Groening.

They always look exactly like who you'd expect to ruin everything.

I understand how you get Patrickface by eating shitty bar food, never moving and drinking crap beer every day of the week, but how does every "passionate vegan" end up looking like they've never even heard of a salad?

Nice entire personality cultivated from the front page of reddit you fat shitbag.

It's incredible how they all wear the exact same eyeglasses.

For a while there, they all did the same stupid fucking half smile. Here's the wife of the dude who ruined Star Wars, demonstrating:

I bought a bunch of his rabbit books back then. They had their moments but if he asked me for advice I would have told him to quit and get a job.

As documented in the THOUSANDS of posts I've made online for the last thirty years, I grew up in Southern California and made comic books when I was a teen.

Here's a YouTube video of Matt Groening autographing books for teens just like me in 1990:

I met Groening before he was famous; in the video above, he's promoting the Simpsons.

But Groening had been doing signings at the Comic Con for ages at that point, and I happened to meet him when he was "coming up," long before he "made it."

Check the video and tell me I'm lying.

In particular, note that at the 0:55 second point in the video, Groening openly admits that he'd been languishing in obscurity for the entirety of the 1980s. Which is exactly when I met him. Which was the entire point of my original post.
