From what I've learned GenCon is big in the tabletop/RPG scene, and this whole "writer summit" they're doing is an afterthought ad-hoc thing to maximize booth renting and entice grifters to go. LARGE majority of the attendees don't give a shit about writing-related panels outside of GAME writing. It's more D&D tournaments and game design stuff that's popular there.

What I've learned from past attendees is that (one of?) the big room is hot and smells like ass so much that they call it the Fart Room.

I saw masks AND vax cards are required. I can’t think of anything currently that still requires you to wear a mask. I think even planes don’t stopped requiring it.

I flew international a few weeks ago and did not put on a mask once and felt no pressure to wear a mask at any point. Every normal person is done with that shit.

I think the last hold out was Uber asking you and the driver to wear a mask but most drivers didn’t give a shit. I think doctors offices are the only ones still doing it because at least that’s sick people

That's what I figure. Pat tested the waters with it last time. He'll do it again this time.

Non profits use what is basically crm software to manage grant/donation applications from foundations , corporations and individuals. The software (there are a few of them and they’re either free or pretty cheap) buy all the data from the government so it’s current and comprehensive. Using that software one could theoretically look at sfwas full history of grants and donations from individuals, corporations, and foundations. Could also learn a lot about who does what in the organization with respect to handling money. You can get the info from the irs but it’s a massive pain in the ass I’m sure.

You can get their tax return for free from the IRS but there's fuck all in it.

Jerry Jen had a go at getting information on just Pat's gift and the SFWA spent $8k+ on fighting that in court and won, so we don't get to see it. If there was an easier way I imagine he'd have done it.

If you have information on the CRM software and how we'd use it to access SFWA's books then I'm sure Quasi would be eternally grateful, and give you like a gold star next to your username or something.

EDIT: Also, there's an accountant on here who does the books for charities as part of his job, and seems to think it's much harder than you make out.
