What country is this, or if that's too specific, what is the dish called? A former friend spent a year in Korea, told me about the dog-eating festival. Didn't go no matter how much I urged, part of why we're no longer friends.
The dish is Korean as @Turk February noticed. I suspect the meat may be better in Korea as they have a specific breed of dog they use.

It’s a tough one, man. I don’t exactly know how to explain it but I couldn’t eat something that has been domesticated. I’m indifferent about horses though. Edit: also veal just seems cruel to me.
I don't think anyone should have to rationalize their personal taboos when it comes to what animals they want to eat. Sometimes it is as basic as "the thought of it just bugs me" and that should be valid enough.

There's a JRE where that hunter Adam Rinella talks about visiting Indians in the Amazon. He's overjoyed at seeing what is such a strange ecosystem to him and asks his guide questions about every animal they encounter.

Do they hunt this bird, this lizard, this spider? Yes, no, sometimes.

Why? In some cases they're poisonous or they don't taste good. For most examples, though, the guide just says "Well, we just don't eat those things."

Why not? "I don't know, we just  don't."
