Name any negative trait of Opies and it’s present in Ant and Jim 10 fold. He’s unfunny? Ant and Jim. Interrupting? Ant and Jim. Bombing? Thin skinned? Stopped talking during segments they weren’t interested in? All them.

There are people on here willing to excuse finger banging children as long as someone hits a bell when monkeys get brought up. Or they make the connection between “Stu” and “Pid”. Anyone who acts like Anthony is some comedic genius should be killed violently.

Anthony and Jim are not funny on their own. They have failed without Opie. This cannot be argued anymore. More than half of their biggest jokes on the show came directly from listeners submitting them through one of the chatrooms. They would lift from Paltalk or Instant Feedback every single day. And staff members would write them lines as well. Whenever someone would expect them to say something funny and they had nothing you would hear Anthony resort to a Jaws reference or Norton throwing out "die in a fire" or "puddle of AIDS". Those listeners who wrote lines for them are clearly not part of the Compound or Jim and Sam fandom.

Also Norton and Anthony used to have meetings in secret before and after the show and agree to laugh at each other's jokes no matter what just to try to get underneath Opie's skin. And they would agree to try not to laugh at or acknowledge anything that Opie said as well just to further drive a wedge. Go listen to shows from 2008 or so onward and you will hear some really obvious fake laughing between those two faggots at each other doing mediocre jokes. And you will hear them deliberately ignore Opie and just plow through with their faggotry on purpose to try to hijack the show.

Jim's lines as Steve from Yellowstone were often written by people in the back office. It was Derek and Opie who came up with Norton leaving the studio to make calls into the show as someone else and Derek who specifically came up with doing Steve's stupid 'deep voice' character. Norton stole Chip directly from the Jerky Boys. Even his biggest characters are not original.

Opie wasn’t funny but he was the only guy who could keep the show moving at a speed that made it can’t miss radio, while also creating an abnormally dedicated fanbase comprised of normal people and fringe psychos.

He hyped the bits leading up to them and talked about how awesome they were after the fact. He talked shit on everyone and everything and constantly talked about how real they were.

Opie hyped tissue time for months and it’s the worst bit in the world. He lied through his teeth about punching Frenchman underwater. He stomped cakes, destroyed guitars, and made porn girls cry. He claimed management had kill switches in Washington for them specifically just to be safe.

He openly disrespected talentless Norton live on the air and forced him to seethe silently as he interviewed DL, which included bringing up why Norton was so angry. He purposely humiliated his cohost live.

It was all of that type of shit that made O&A the rebels of radio with a die hard fan base of obsessed psychos who wouldn’t miss a minute. He made them a part of the show by having them randomly attack innocent shows and it kept the people listening for a long, long time.

Was he funny? No. Could he have been as successful without Anthony? Highly doubt it.

But for all his faults, he knew how to keep people listening when he wanted to. Not every bit or segment was a home run, but they didn’t need to be.

Sure, he got butthurt and was super sensitive, but he wasn’t sitting on Paltalk and banning his fans because they said something he didn’t like, either.

I've mentioned this in previous threads, but his wave to jesse ventura right before he enters the studio to put worm in his place, followed by norton's shellshocked expression, is one of the funniest moments in the show's history. that one gesture is more alpha than anything worm and coomia would ever have the brass to do
