Well, he fucking sucks at it and people tend to not like things they suck at. Also, he's a lazy fuck who likes the idea of writing or being a writer, without putting in the work. I'm still absolutely gobsmacked that some retard gave the other retard a book contract worth 100k or so (based on a 3 book deal). That's just absurd. As such, I believe the guy who gave Pat that contract, is no longer in the publishing industry. Nice eye for talent, stupid.

It was actually three books for $24k or something. The $100k number is just a total lie by Pat.

Like others have said, short answer - no. He likes the idea of being a hard-drinking "truth teller" like Hemingway or Bukowski (not that he's probably ever read anything by either of them), but he's got no talent and his work ethic is beyond awful. The fact that he's obsessed with making his arbitrary word count goals on the days that he does tweet he's #amwriting (again, no evidence that he's actually written anything substantial in three years) suggests that, at best, writing is a chore for him. I'd imagine that good writers get lost in their work and, before they know it, have hammered out several pages. Maybe they count their words at the end of the day, but it's not a number hanging over them like a helicopter parent hovering over their lazy kid at homework time.

Those word count targets are all the evidence you need that he doesn't enjoy it. He has turned it into homework and requires the dopamine reward of reaching an arbitrary milestone. Probably a relic of Mama Raven's blundered attempts to raise him. If little Patty pretended to do homework until 4:30, he could have some Mountain Dew.

I don't have the receipts but he has stated several times he only does it for money and if he was rich he would never write again. He is the perfect antonym of an artist or "creative" if you will.

Also note he doesn’t even seem to be inspired by other writers other than ripping off hitchhikers guide. Most creatives say they find inspiration in all kinds of places and will see other people in their industry as motivation / competition (lot of examples of this in music history) but Pat doesn’t even seem to be able to name many authors he actually likes. I think he figured the books would be a start to get him to what he really wants to do and that’s Cable news talking head like the popular twitter accounts he wishes he could be. He believes his true calling in life is “political firebrand / know-it-all” that would have a career as public figure related to politics. But of course he’s too toxic for even msnbc or even to be twitter famous so he’s miserable as shit and stuck writing for nobody.

I bet he can’t even name 10 popular writers he likes but you know he can name at least 20 political twitter accounts that he follows.
