Does expensive wine taste markedly different than normal priced wine?

Ive heard the placebo thing about wine, but im pretty sure in liquors its quite obvious when youre drinking something a bit nicer. Even with Vodka, plus higher quality liquor hangovers arent nearly as gnarly.

That being said, the most i could reasonably bring myself to spend on a bottle of whiskey is $50-$60.

I agree, I downed half a bottle of this last night...

Had it been Jameson I'd be in a world of shit right now.

The most expensive bottle I have had was $100, and it was good but not that much different from something in the $30-$40 range. There’s a winery near me that makes a great Cabernet and it is under $30.
I’d probably be fooled by a blind taste test and pick the box wine though.

I remember reading something by some award winning wine journalist and his faggot wife who kept a super rare vintage, mega expensive unlabled bottle to one side for a special occasion, and when they finally drank it they both agreed it was the single greatest thing they had ever tasted and it was worth every penny, and then found out later they'd drank the wrong bottle.
I think 20 is alright if its not a special occasion. 50 for a nice gift, 100 for something really special, but they are just gestures, it's not like I know what I'm looking for.
I guess it all depends what the gift receiver is looking for in their wine. As long as it has a real cork and doesn't taste like vinegar who really gives a fuck.

Also the price of California wine is such bullshit. European wins should cost $20-$40 because they ship that shit overseas. The domestic price of wine in europe is <$10, Californian wines should be dirt cheap in the US. The fact that they're not is why I never drink them.
