Tobacco is one of my favorite smells, but having to smoke for 40 minutes straight is just too much for me. It's like having to eat a whole tray of hors d'oeuvre and bottle of champagne when you really just want one canape and a modest coupe.

I like smaller cigars for this reason. The ones that take like 15-20 minutes to smoke. Plus sometimes I don't want to sit outside for an hour.

I like the smaller ones like Macanudo Cafe, but they tend to be harsher than larger ones for some reason. Probably something to do with less packing of tobacco acting as a natural filter and cooling the smoke down or something. I don't know much about cigars. The Davidoff Demi Tasse are nice but way overpriced. I'd rather just smoke a cigarette at that point.

Umm I just smoke them the day I buy them usually, I've been living in a warm humid climate area so didn't need a humador. I just smoke maybe one every week or so anyway. I don't have a cutter i just whip the end off with a fruit knife. I tend to like cigars that smell a bit funky and mature quite woody and fragrant before you light them. Most of the ones I've bought seem to smell bitter.

The Liga Privada No 9 has a very malty aged tobacco taste and is designed to be smoked immediately and not aged.

You might also like the Papas Fritas and Nasty Fritas, which are two smaller less expensive cigars that use the same blend as the Liga 9.

Also if you know any details about the box of Cubans that might help narrow it down, for example were the cigars big or small, was the box wooden or did it have art on it, if you knew the color of the band etc.

It was a wooden box with a glass panel slide front, 6 cigars I'd say 6" long 3/4+ inch thick. They had a good card label and I think the inner sleeve had some bullshit about it being a musicians brand or founded by a musician but this info hasn't led me back to the cigars, possibly because I made that part up when i remembered poorly. There were 2 types inside the box , one were shitty (red gold label one were really good (gold white) . They were purchased in Cuba so I can't ask the giver for the store.

I'm not really bothered if they were real, the girl who got me them was just trying to find a thoughtful gift. I guess I like fake cuban cigars though which is a good thing probably.

Sorry to pester you, if they were cigars bought in Cuba then how are they not Cubans? Is it like one of those Bourbon whiskey things where it has to be rolled on the thigh of a virgin and blessed by a priest for it to be regarded as a cuban or what?

So given that you bought them in Cuba, they could very well be Cubans i.e. actual cigars made in Cuba, possibly a deal where a family farm stashes some tobacco away to make cigars to sell on the black market. That would be nice and would explain why they were so good, but acquiring them again is going to be a long shot.

Usually the way the scam works is people on vacation in Mexico get approached by someone who wants to sell them Cuban cigars, and they always seem to be in a glass front box. Those are not Cubans in any sense - they're who-knows-what origin and most likely are comprised of floor sweepings and thumbtacks and shit.

So in your case "not real Cuban" would just mean they're not from the "official" (ie state owned) tobacco companies.

I actually found a video of me smoking one of the better ones. I've had to crop the shit out of it to remove location giveaways but you can see a bit of the label. You seem to know what you're talking about. Do you recognise this as a generic high street cigar label? Thanks last letters are e/o,l l,o
