Boston is a classic example of a dense, European-style city with plenty of public transportation. Buses everywhere, a more or less reliable subway system, rental bikes on every fucking corner, hell you can even take the ferry in to work if you live in certain places on the coast. And yet, despite all that, Somerville has the highest density of cars per square mile in the country, and Cambridge is right behind it.
People absolutely will not just get rid of their cars because they can take the subway or a bus.

Even in the most medieval, densest European cities imaginable, people will own a car if they have the means to, as it's just an insanerly useful thing to have, even if you don't really 'need' it.

His reasoning is also retarded and hypocritical as usual, as he actually does live in a 'walkable' city yet he owns a car and a bike for primarily masturbatory reasons. He doesn't live in some surburbian hell, he lives like 2 miles out from the city center, in a neighborhood zoned in the fucking 1800s, with a bunch of amenities. He really can do all his day to day stuff on foot and take a short ride on the bus downtown if he feels like it, he just chooses not to because he's lazy and arrogant and likes his toys. He himself is the best counterargument against the dumb point he's trying to make.
