Your comparison sucks. No one thought Johnny Cash shot a man or was named Sue. No one thought Elton John or David Bowie were going to space. Both of those things are unrealistic. Working for a living is not. And Elton John / Johnny Cash didn’t make their whole personas around the fantasies they wrote about. It would be like finding out Elton John isn’t actually gay.
