Didn't sound like an incompetent atc at least but he turned them and handed it off to another frequency where it dropped. I listen to it on all my flights and it's shocking. One lady lost a plane on the runway... just magically gone until someone found it. One time two black guys had one of those long conversations you hear at the gas station where you know they're talking and they understand each other but it's basically stereotypical monkey noises for 5 min and I was wondering what all the planes on approach were thinking. I had a plane miss a turn by a lot and nobody noticed and got yelled at. We lost something off the bottom of the plane and kept going.
Just assume that you've got a chance of getting killed when flying at this point. Not surprised this one happened. Someone cleared a helicopter into an active arrival plan before going on break.
Edit. The atc that did it won't get fired because they're transitioning and stressed or some shit like that

I don't have the link. The atc audio is out on NBC. I wasn't shocked it was a chick traffic controller, she sounds like she's concerned if her lunch break will be delayed. I hear them fuck up the most on flights or it's confirmation bias but I never hear dude go ummmm my bad I didn't see that
