condenser mic with a high Input gain nigga, i ain't no external mic preamp owning rockefeller.
You can add an older generation Apogee Duet 2 for a couple hundred bucks and be on your way. Not like you're spending money taking ladies out on dates or anything, how hard is it to save 500 bucks and have a nice set up you can be (poor) proud of?

57 sure, I've just never had luck recording anything very well with a 58 that I can think of the handful of times I've tried
58 is more of a live mic but I've seen it used on snares in professional sessions. They're both gems for the price. 57s are used like hammers by roadies and still suffer no damage. Shure makes good shit.

Not a big fan of shure sound, they are very low input gain dynamic mics. although as you mentioned they are great for live performances.

sm57 has a separate fangroup dedicated to it among audio circles but i never got the hype around it.

I am a germanfag through and through, a sucker for sennheisers and akgs.

I won't even bother mentioning Telefunken or Neumann products out of respect for your financial dignity.

Jon Del Arroz gave Dan the inside scoop on getting a Yeti USB mic. And he's a real pro Youtuber, so he'd know!
