My favorite movie. I remember how badly they marketed it, made it look like a dumb comedy or something. It took everyone like 10 years to figure out it was great.

First time I watched it I thought it was some serious faggy arthouse movie. Years later I watched it and realized it was a dark comedy. Almost an outright comedy. And it was not really kind to pornographers, whores, drug dealers and users, and really liberals in general. Just showed a sick society. The only moral character is the main character's mother who tries and fails to give her son a normal life.

The mother was an alkie cunt. The father seemed like a nice enough guy just a weak and meek fucker who couldn’t stand up to his wife.

Pretty much every character is 3 dimensional and are also a collection of damaged, overgrown children who are simultaneously naive, self-involved and totally lacking self-awareness. Even the most repugnant character, The Colonel, lies to himself about who and what he is. Jack Horner watches the edits of his Godawful "real movie" and says it's the film he wants to be remembered by. It's as much a tragedy as a comedy in my opinion. The story, the writing, the acting, the editing, the music, the pacing. Honestly, I put it at the same level as Goodfellas.
