I’ve always said you can judge a person’s character by how they perceive The Sopranos. The show is meant to shine a light on how sick, evil, narcissistic and destructive these people are, and you are not supposed to think they are cool or an image to look up to.

Meanwhile I’m listening to an old episode of OnA, and Anthony the trashy retard is going on about how The Sopranos is starting to take itself too seriously, and how he likes it more when it they focus on:

  • Badass guys in da family just killing each other
  • Doing whatever ya want
  • The sexy broads
  • Power money RESPECT!!!
He has called David Chase an “artsy asshole” multiple times now.
I have never met a good person who idolized fictional characters like Tony Soprano.

No, stupit. If we isolate the first season, hell, even the first episode, it is a show about a boomer “badass” who goes to therapy and cries about ducks and his mother. The word “parody” isn’t right, it’s more a satire on the culture at the time which it was. Mobsters in track suits who smoke crack and have mental issues rather than some superficial “da life is great” thing.

Some of them are written as being tough like Tony or Furio or even Christopher when he was sober. Others are written as being weak or cowardly like Pussy, Benny, Junior, or Matthew. Tony beating the shit out of Coco for threatening his daughter is probably the most masculine 'tough guy' scene in all of television. It was straight out of Henry Hill pistol whipping that dude in Goodfellas who smacked Karen around. Tony even uses the same prop pistol.
