Going to Belize for our belated honeymoon in May. Going to stay in the Keys first (Caye Caulker fishing for me and snorkeling for her) and then the Jungle (San Ignacio cave exploring and Mayan ruins in Tikal) Doesn’t answer your question as I’ve never been but we are pretty excited.

But I'd stay here https://hsantanapeten.com/ on Isla Flores and drive to the pyramids. Close to the airport and plenty of great waterfront restaurants.

Anytime, brothaman. Also use https://www.guatemalarentacar.com/ get a Hilux if you're going to Yaxha, roads in are bad and the place is practically deserted.

Waze works fine, just zoom out on routes, the shortcut roads are generally in poorer condition. Stick to the main highways.
