So the World Cup final and the USA vs England game had good ratings. 65 million people watched the world series last year and the Super Bowl always beats everything out. MLS signed a big deal but that only equals 1 college football conference deal, and there's 5 big conferences and a bunch of smaller ones.

It would take Saudi levels of money to take it to where they want it to go. They're still grasping onto the franchise model that only works if you're the world leader in quality of product like it does in the 4 main US sports. Aston Villa just sold Jhon Duran for 70 mil and they got him off Chicago Fire <2 years ago for a fraction of that. If you offer wages like the Saudi clubs do you'd start to see elite players going there and interacting with the younger US players and they'd probably stay a while and the USMNT wouldn't be all based in Europe.
People care about the game here because there are real consequences for failure. The idea that, no matter how unlikely, your small market provincial team could one day play in the Prem if they play their cards right is why most people watch, even the fans of the big teams enjoy it. From a business standpoint it's a greater reward for the risk because you aren't buying an NFL team for <8billion whereas a stake in Leyton Orient which you can subsequently invest in might run you 500K. The franchise system means that a pyramid system is impossible to achieve as it entails 32 board members agree to play russian roulette in slow motion over the course of a year against one another.

Panama actually has quite a decent squad since 2018 or so...they routinely beat teams like Costa Rica and give Mexico a hard time...USA will do well at the World Cup because it will be made up 48 teams, a lot who will be a few levels WORSE than Panama.
