Salafism is a "wider umbrella" term. You might say the deobandi mosques Pakistani in the UK are Salafi. It just means those who follow the "salaf al saleh"(The Righteous Companions) ie: the first 3 generations of Muslims. Alot of them are apolitical like the Amish, and just want to be left alone. But a lot are also militant.

Wahhabism is a specific thing, the followers of Mohammed ibn Abdul Wahhab. A man who lived in 1750s Arabia, and claimed to be a "mujadid" (revivor of the religion) and a follower of the Hanbalite school of fiqh. He got into an alliance with a tribal chieftain named ibn Saud, (Saud the political, and ibn Wahhab, his mufti) and their partnership/pact was to shape Saudi Arabia into a "thing" a century later.

The pirates off the eastern coast of Arabia that were attacking British ships coming from India were also Wahhabis, but a different branch from the Saud (The Qassimi) and in the 19th century, got beaten by the British Empire and signed terms of surrender, hence "the Trucial States".

Oman is neither Wahhabi, nor even Sunni or Shia but its own thing "Ibadi". Which is why its always a 'neutral' party in the Saudi-Iran beefs in the region.
