He doesn't even promote his work. He alienates a large percentage of his potential audience by basically wishing death on anyone who votes Republican. Those people aren't going to buy his books. He's a complete douchebag to anyone who dares interact with him and doesn't kiss his ass. If pressed, he's probably one of those assholes who say things like "if they don't like me then I don't want them as readers" but he doesn't have nearly the audience to say those kinds of things. He's too narcissistic to promote himself. Whoever said that viral tweet was the worst thing to happen to him was 100% right. He let small amounts of social media attention get to his head even before the viral tweet. Responding to negative feedback to his comedy on reddit with "well I got two hundred upvotes so it's clearly funny". The approval of anonymous strangers fills him with such undeserved bravado.
