Not to mention his "30 years" remark. He's posted pictures of the rest of that rotting shack. The foundation is obviously fucked. The walls are splitting in several places and it's so bad that they can't close the pocket doors, so the doors just sit open and crooked. A proper inspection and estimate would very likely reveal they need at least several tens of thousands of dollars in repairs and replacements.

This plastic porch is just a band-aid on a laundry list of problems with that shithole. It's not a Historical Landmark. It's a rotting corpse.

Look at the joists - they're pretty new. It's not like he built a new deck or anything. Any greenhorn carpenter's apprentice could do what he just did.

There's a lot to unpack here. That's not a 124 year old deck, he's not the one doing the work, he's still morbidly obese, and he's not an author.

Is he getting the shitty plastic decking just so he doesn't have to hire another contractor to paint it?

EDIT: Idk how I managed to ignore the obvious...that's not his house and he wouldn't be the one hiring anyone to paint the deck that isn't his.

He's totally not doing this, as there are no glaring issues. But "plastic" decking can be great. Spent more than I imagined I would for a smallish (12 x 12?? I dunno) TimberTech deck and it's pretty awesome. Had Trex at a previous house, and while it was easier to maintain than wood, the fit and finish was kinda lacking.

Unless he's gonna change the siding, though, wouldn't a darker, warmer color fit waaaay better? IMO.

Cheapest color so that’s the one he bought. He then got laborers to do the work.
