JaMarcus Russel was a big fat guy with a strong arm.
He played in the SEC when it was dominated by run-heavy offenses and he never had the chance to prove how bad he was.
He was also at least a quarter retarded. Whoever decided to draft him should be shot against a brick wall.

Edit: there's a great story one of his Raider teammates told on a podcast where the QB coach gave Russell a disk to take home, that he said contained a bunch of plays he wanted him to watch over the weekend and then tell them the next week which ones he liked. Only the tape was blank. Russell came in on Monday and was like, "Yeah coach, I like all these plays. They all look good."

He was legendarily stupid.
They interviewed the guy and pored over him and they still failed to realize he was a total retard. But before the draft, everyone was drooling because he threw a 70 pass from his knees, like that would ever come in handy during a real game. Every year the draftniks build up some guy like Paxton Lynch or Blake Bortles or Trey Lance, and they get picked way, way too high. IMO Richardson at number four is going to look really, really retarded three or four years from now. He's a physically gifted-but-mediocre QB who played 13 games for a middling mediocre program. He was a step down from Kyle Trask, for God's sake.

Paxton faggot Lynch couldn't even beat out a no name 7th rounder in Trevor Siemian, two years in a row. It was painful watching him play. Another guy who it was obvious he was fucked from the second he stepped on the field.

Lol, I was friends with a cowboys fan that nearly cried when they drafted Zeke over Lynch

Or this Zach Wilson guy. The gay Jets picked him second overall, even though his college career was mostly a big joke, consisting of racking up stats playing jayvee-level teams. Everyone who follows these things chortled over that pick. Then the 49ers talked themselves into Trey Lance, who, incredibly, did even less at the college level than Wilson did, and it helped overshadow how stupid the Wilson pick was.
Hey not for nothing, but Trask was a points machine at Florida. If their defense wasn't the worst in the conference, they probably beat Bama in the SEC championship. He was a very, very good college quarterback. I wouldn't take him in the draft lower than the 3rd round because of his size and strength, but let's not compare him to Richardson. Richardson simply doesn't understand how to be a quarterback.
I wasn't comparing him favorably to Trask LOL. Trask started a lot of actual meaningful games, and to play in meaningful college games, you need to win a lot. Richardson is a draftnik creation. Maybe it will work out like how Josh Allen did, but that kind of thing doesn't really happen a lot.

I really believe the Jets picked him almost entirely based on that one really long throw in his workout. Sheer idiocy. The Lance one is even more baffling. A guy who started 17 lousy games at an FCS school is never going to be worth what they paid for him. Another guy overshadowed by a 7th round pick.

LOL at least I knew who Purdy was. Zach Wilson and Trey Lance went 2 and 3 in the NFL draft. I mean, taking Justin Fields in either of those spots would have been WAY safer. Even Mac Jones, who had zero business being a first round draft pick, would have been a better bet.

Wilson didn't surprise me because I will never underestimate the Jets ability to shoot themselves in the foot. Lance did shock me. I figured Lynch and Shanahan had a pretty grasp on what would work at the pro level.

At least with Fields you were getting a guy who played well for a real program. Even die-hard college football fans would have been hard-pressed to know who Trey Lance even was. It's fun to look back at some of the laughably bad QB picks in draft history, guys like Jake Locker, Christian Ponder, Blaine Gabbert and etc.

Alright, I was largely indifferent to the Broncos first two picks as I didn't know enough about either guy, but I love Riley Moss. Kinda shocked he fell so far. Denver desperately needed DB depth, especially with all the different ways Vance Joseph uses them in his defense. I like that pick. Here I go again, talking myself into being hopeful about Denver in the Spring.

LOL the 49ers took a kicker in the third round. I always wonder why teams do this. Did they really think some other team would swoop in and snag the guy?

I remember him getting mercilessly booed in a preseason game. I kind of felt bad for him, but mostly I thought it was hilarious.

I'm telling you as a Bama fanatic, Gibbs isn't a first rounder. And Brian Branch is very undersized for his projected role. They took two dudes from Iowa which I don't hate cause Iowa players are rugged, but Hendon Hooker?
The best take I saw on the Lions drafting Hooker was "Smart move to get a guy like Hooker to mentor Goff." Hooker and Stetson Bennet are older than about half the QB's in the league. I'm not convinced Bennet is younger than Brett Favre.

It might have been tolerable if he was at least a likeable guy who put in the work like Drew Lock. But he was just a retard who never studied film and played Madden all day. He's flopped out of the CFL, the new USFL, and likely the XFL very soon.

I was listening to Boston sports talk this morning and they were saying to look out for this. Apparently teams decide to reinforce their special teams in years like this where the draft talent isn't very deep. I'm just happy Belichick hasn't drafted a gunner in the second round.
49ers needed a kicker anyways and they have so many comp picks that they can fuck around in the later draft rounds. It seems Michigan fans love the kid and apparently pretty damn good. We will see if he can do it on the big stage.
