Someone explained that it's a Nigerian thing. Different cultures have different standards of hygiene.

I think it’s also to show he doesn’t need to cut them for work because he’s so successful he doesn’t need to do any kind of manual labor. It’s like a status symbol is some dirt poor country way. “He doesn’t have to cut his nail, he must be rich!”
