The psychic harm can't really be undone, the public at large (that has remained) has stayed loyal because of the assumption that every body is pitching in on a united and agreed upon goal of protecting Russian interests and prosperity. The notion that conscripted Russian boys are shooting down the helicopters of other conscripted Russian boys is far more devastating to Putin than any direct blame thrown his way could have been. It's pretty fucked up.
