I like him
DMCA, complaints, and other inquiries:
He was apparently seriously weirded out by the Xenon "revelations" that were told to him once he reached a certain level of scientology, and took a big step back. Yes, it was around the time he was doing Eyes Wide Shut. Like you said, Miscavige went flat out to turn him around. Basically made him his equal - private army of slaves etc. Cruise then went all in himself, in typical fashion. Tried getting Germany's ruling overturned, tried getting scientology recognised as a religion in France, UK and others by schmoozing with politicians. Basically got told to fuck off. Started publicly trashing psychiatry, meds etc - the reason he fell out with Spielberg on War of the Worlds and why they never worked together again; Cruise got scientologists to picket the office of a shrink friend of Spielberg's.When he was on Top Gear you could see how mental-case competitive he was with Cameron Diaz about getting a better lap time than her (and how relieved and happy he was when he did). He's that weird sports guy from school that had to beat the other team every time or he'd trash the locker room like a complete raging psycho-spaz - like his self worth only exists if he's always number 1. I don't think he's ever developed as a human being but that seems to be because Scientology ruined his brain - I've heard he was absolutely done with it when he was in the UK with Kubrick doing Eyes Wide Shut and Miscavige went into uber crisis mode and absolutely had Scientologists fly in to 'get Cruise back' (I think Kubrick told them to get the fuck off his set). His 80/90 era stuff is full of great acting and movies, he was still pumping out good stuff in the early 00s (loved Magnolia), the last 10 years (bar Top Gun 2) I think audiences have just moved on, still makes ok films (I liked the sci-fi one where he plays replicants of himself) but I get the impression younger audiences are like: 'who the fuck is this guy?'. Either way, I'll enjoy his career while it lasts.
Like I said earlier, he's probably the only one left - in the sense that any movie he's headlining is guaranteed to be a box office hit. Who else can you say that about?he was my first 'movie star', the guy that if you saw him in a trailer you were gonna see the movie.
A lot of short guys have this disease. They figure if they're not #1, then they're just another manlet. Joe Rogan, for example. He said that he pissed blood or something because he wanted to beat Ari and Bert tracking miles during Sober October or something. That's a mental illness. When he was on Top Gear you could see how mental-case competitive he was with Cameron Diaz about getting a better lap time than her (and how relieved and happy he was when he did). Scientology is a CIA multi-level marketing scam. There is no "magic sprinkles", its a raw scam. Also, another 20th century-echo chambered relic that wont make the next 10-15 years. He was apparently seriously weirded out by the Xenon "revelations" that were told to him once he reached a certain level of scientology, and took a big step back. He's the last movie star though. He's also a hell of a serious actor when he wants to be. He should've won best actor for Born on the Fourth of July. He was excellent in Eyes Wide Shut and Magnolia. Maybe once he can't do the stunts anymore we'll see more performances like those from him.
