Regardless of the motivations these are necessary.
The country hasn’t seen such wealth disparity since the 30’s.
The opioid/meth epidemic is far more destructive than authorities are letting on. The rippling effects have harmed birth rates, culture, and billions lost.
World governments could control the flow of natural drugs like cocain and heroine to a degree, so the damage could be lessened, but the current synthetic’s are unstoppable. Especially when the production is literally sponsored by and protected by world powers like china.

The new wave of "street dope" is much worse than heroin or even fentanyl was. Like in places like Philadelphia, where street dope is mostly that xylazine shit and potent post-fentanyl opioids. With heroin, the junkies could cop, shoot, nod for a while, then more or less function in minimal ways. They could walk down the street, steal scrap metal, bum food and smokes or whatever, and remain buzzed for the bulk of the day. This new dope, though, is cop, shoot, pass out for three hours, cop, shoot, repeat. These fuckers can't function on any level, at all. They mostly just sleep near wherever they cop from. So you used to have junkies who'd congregate wherever they copped, then fade back into the neighborhood and whatever hidey-hole they'd staked out. But now they just collapse wherever they shoot, and never leave.

There are some surprisingly nice lofts for rent in the area. A ton of development started on these vintage buildings before the pandemic and ensuing population peak, so now there's plenty of vacancy.
