i nope'd out after the fist fight in the beginning because i didn't like the mechanics

Yeah, the combat is very challenging at first, but its worth progressing to where you start training (as often as you like) with Captain Bernard, just be proficient with a couple weapons.

You can survive most combat situations by getting good at archery on horseback and on foot, which is also surprisingly fun and rewarding. All kinds of possibilities.

Thieving at night in the towns, is another challenging but really exciting and rewarding aspect. Addictive, really.

I think Battlefield 2 was the last " online paintball" type game I played before I realized that I got way too frustrated ( was cussing like Ant and became self aware how pathetic it was) and gave up on the genre.
