I had to go to a bunch of AA meetings in rehab and I met a lot of sober people there. I also later dated a girl who was sober from heroin by going to AA.

So, it works for some people, but I think you have to go all-in. If you’re just a dilettante I’m not sure how much you’ll get out of it. That being said it’s free so there’s no harm in trying.

I went to a few different rooms every week for a couple months and it was meh. The religious aspect is a big turn off for me, but I get why it's so intertwined. A lot of the lifers talk how they "saw the light" if you will, but it was kinda silly to me. I like the format of the groups in rehab better.
