The capture of Homs would split the Syrian state into two: a coastal strip, which is the heartland of Assad's people and the location of most of the Russian bases in the country, and everything else, including the capital Damascus.

Assad will be fine, Russia will not allow this to disrupt their access to their naval base in Tartus.

Russia's embroiled in Ukraine. Russian air power can only do so much, besides, it's about having boots on the ground willing to defend it. In the past, Hezbollah and Iran would've supplemented the Syrian army but they've taken a pounding recently from the Jews. Assad is in a bad spot now that the benefactors that could've bailed him out have been engaged in their own conflicts, limiting the amount of support they're able to give. Support that might not make it in time to be useful even if a definitive peace was reached with Ukraine or Israel tomorrow, given the sheer speed of the advance.

HTS will probably make for Damascus and leave both the coastline and the Kurds alone for the moment, as there's no reason to poke those beehives right now. Assad definitely could survive, but it'd be as the leader of an Alawite rump state, not most of Syria.

In this case, Im telling you, you couldn't be more wrong except to call fire, water. These HTS soldiers have military colleges etc peppered all over the Syrian-Turkish border, and their graduating cadets are literally BETTER soldiers than anything Israel, Canada, USA etc can put together, mostly because they are well trained (new level-up) and not afraid to die (always been the case).
