You can get like 60%. It's strong but it's not the strongest shit I've ever had. I'm a big time drinker and can drink retardedly excessively but my ex brought me a bottle of Everclear type shit that was 94% abv and that shit had me stumbling around and blacking out like it was my first time drinking.
One that will always stand out with me was trying real mescal that was brought back from mexico in water bottles. Tasted like a campfire and made my knees ache.

I made beer for awhile but always wanted a still. Moonshine is just pure ethanol. The shit that makes you blind is methanol from either the front or the back of the still run, I can't remember. They call it heads hearts and tails, the heads and tails are gross and one of em can kill you.

Methanol is the part that comes out first during distillation

A non retard would throw that out before collecting the ethanol but these are methed up rednecks

No moonshine (made in the moonshine) is super strong. They use pot stills. It tastes harsh(er) because it has no age.

Using a column or continuous still is what you need for super strong booze, but you can't drink 190 proof anyway (straight I mean).

The "killing you" stuff is usually methanol made as methanol (wood alcohol), because it's cheaper to make. Yes, it's part of the heads but it won't kill you if you don't cut it, it just makes a worse product.

I'm saying the beer or wine or whatever "wash" you use to distill has the heads and tails in it before you distill it. Leaving the heads and tails in is no more poisonous than drinking straight beer or wine or whatever other product you've fermented. All fermented beverages naturally contain small amounts of higher and lower alcohols, aldihydes, etc. that distillers cut for a purer product, but would be consumed just drinking the fermented beverage.

The kill you or go blind myth comes from the idea of purposely making straight wood alcohol. (Mostly from prohibition era drunks drinking Sterno (canned heat) and the like which is made of methanol.) Nobody's distilling any fermented beverage that can kill you.

I've thought about but never tried the inverse of heat distillation...freezing.

New England colonists would make apple jack by freezing hard cider in the winter and separating the ice (water). The strength of the finished product depends on how cold it gets. I'm not sure how (in)efficient this process is, and it certainly leaves in the heads and tails for a less pure product, but with a lot of character (congeners).

You have the brewing equipment to make a cheap "wash" (sugar water and baker's yeast, eg.). Screw around with some kitchen stuff to make a small still. A pressure cooker, a tangine, whatever. Your just boiling stuff and condensing the steam. Taste what comes out. When it starts to taste like booze, collect it. When it starts to taste like water, stop. If it's not strong enough to your liking when you're finished, take what you've collected and repeat. You're not going to hurt anyone. It's only going to be more pure than the beer (wash) you made. If you're beer is potable (it is), so is the booze .
