This game came out of nowhere. Helldivers 1 was a decent twin sticks overhead shooter on PS3 and the premise was pretty cool but it was one of those indie games nobody really cares about. They clearly put a bit more budget into the sequel in Helldivers 2 and made it third person but kept a lot of the same gameplay mechanics like calling in strikes, weapons etc. It's pretty sick. It's like Starship Troppers mixed with Terminator with some crazy ass action that can be played solo or multiplayer with friends. It doesn't have a story or anything, although it has lore, but the gameplay is fun as hell and it's only $40 on PS5 and Steam. It's a pretty good time and it has a battlepass but they call them 'warbonds'. There's a free one that is pretty lengthy and there is also a paid one where you can earn some cool cosmetics and different weapons. The gameplay loop is do missions, kill shit, earn xp and these tokens that you can use to upgrade your character, your ship. You upgrade your ship to get different call downs which they call 'stratagems'. It's a pretty neat mechanic where in the moment you have to hold L1 and put in a sequence of codes to call in whatever you want, so you have to sort up clutch up in the moment which makes for more intense action moments. You can call in bomb strikes, napalm, nukes, big weapons, turrets, drones, shields, the list goes on. They even teased a huge mech that you can summon like Titanfall to use against the enemies. I bought it on PS5 and Steam so if anyone wants to play hit me up. Here's a video to show off what its like.
It's been a huge success so far and they've already announced that they will have brand new warbonds to work on every month, new weapons, armor, stratagems (call ins from your ship) and new enemy types. Right now there's bugs and terminator robots.
