Every gym I went to in the 90s had spray bottles and paper towels everywhere to use after you were done on a machine or floor mat. No one wanted staph or mono from some unwashed loser. If you didn't clean the machines someone would confront you eventually. In college our coaches made up wipe the machines down before and after each use to prevent anyone from getting sick.

I saw those same spray bottles in NFL gyms and locker rooms in the early 2000s. Everyone was using them even professionals. Staph infection can literally end your career. Imagine losing out on your athletic career because some internet dweeb thinks being clean is 'gay'.
