People jerk themselves off over him like he's the greatest to ever do it but he's not even that good. Half his roles are him covered in so many prosthetics you can't even tell it's him. His performance as Truman in Oppenheimer was just corny. Just get a character actor who actually looks and sounds like he did to play the part. Why do the fuck do you have to get Gary Oldman in makeup for 8 hours just to do a 30 second role.

He's a good actor but by no means flawless. I thought his Churchill was beneath that of Albert Finney, but it's a historical person being "revisited and deconstructed" therefore he must have the academy award.
There is such a dearth of great actors (and directors mind you) that we attach ourselves to the slither of talent present today.

Not even trying to be an edgy fag when I say I don't think he's made a truly great movie since The Prestige. It's like when the jews decided he was going to be the golden boy and get all the Hollywood money, he became incapable of making anything that isn't a $200M bloated mess. All his movies since Batman Begins need to be cut down by 30 mins at least but I guess they just let the guy do whatever he pleases since he brings in the shekels.

He completely got Churchill's accent wrong. Not his voice, the accent. I guess it wouldn't matter for most of an American audience, but it immediately took me out of it. I switched it off 10 minutes in.

I think Gary Oldman is one of those actors - like Paul Dano, Philip Seymour Hoffman, William H. Macy, Steve Buscemi and that guy who played Fredo - who gets massively overrated just because he's not a typical good looking movie star. That's the extent of it pretty much - people feel like they're smart for having picked up something about the weirdo or the loser as opposed to just focusing on the hero.

I don't even know what "great acting" is. Once you hide the fact that you're acting, you can't do any better. It's kind of like being a referee. You can't do better than to follow the rules. One in ten people can act as well as anyone else.
