I call it an Imgur BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT IT IS!
I think it's just one of those words that nobody has ever actually said out loud, so it would sound weird no matter how you say it. Plus, he brought it up by name as if it were anything but an image hosting site. The fact that the images were edited had zero to do with the fact that they were hosted on Imgur.
On their official site they say it's pronounced imager. But you're right, it is still funny with your explanation.
