According to Danny, Mars ratted out Derek to Opie for Derek saying that Opie's YT videos sucked. Opie does not want to reminded of the truth so he canned Derek who went to Rockstar.

This issue of Mars being a rat did come up later (indirectly) when Danny and Mars had their on-air fight.
