They were wrong on practically every political or even social issue. You can skip most political segments and most social issue talk segments on the show and miss absolutely zero entertainment. Even stuff like the Ventura arguments are nauseating to re-listen to because of how uninformed and mentally dull O&A and Jimmy were. The Katrina stuff is great because when they were finally proven clearly wrong they just laugh it off and immediately begin mocking the dead or homeless. The show must go on.

However, I can excuse Opie. He never talked like an authority. I can even excuse Jimmy because he never had strong opinions about anything besides neocon talking points like Iraq war good or TSA good.
I can’t excuse Anthony who legitimately believes he’s a political genius and spouts fucking nonsense with insane authority. This “Being able to admit you’re wrong and laugh about shit” is completely gone from him now.

To their credit, they did later poke fun at how badly wrong they predicted the situation. A big reason for that was them routinely mocking panicky local NY news reports about hurricanes over the years, which usually was overblown. I remember them doubting Hurricane Sandy was gonna hit New York right up until the day that it did.

Which is hilarious, because it’s common sense. Yeah, a hurricane in the South is going to be more drastic than a hurricane in New England. It’d be like them being shocked a tornado devastated Oklahoma because the ones they have in upstate NY usually aren’t bad.

The best one was when he complained that his brothers had to plow their fields, acreage for a poor family, on their brand new bikes. As if a large family with a enough land to plow that can purchase their ten children new bikes is the same as growing up in the ghettos and slums of New Delhi. His hellish impoverished family with their armada of mountain bikes and new gear for Christmas.

In their prime, they didn't TRY to rant about race or "enlighten" anyone. They covered politicians and their debates through the lens of childish, fawked-up comedy. One of The DMAN's first memories of O&A when Jesse Ventura was sworn into office in 1999, they the played audio of the speech. The guy doing the ceremony with Jesse doing the "I do solemnly swear" thing sounded exactly like Butt-Head. The DMAN noticed it as they played the audio and then Anthony started doing the voice and pointed it out. It was littler things like that, not really the big over the top stunts, that got The DMAN into the show.
In later years it would have turned into Anthony reciting some Fox News bullshit, Norton giving no opinion or just copying Anthony/Nick DiPaolo. And Opie would either tap out or he would try to get something stupid going, but the other 2 wanted to pontificate. The DMAN went back to listen to their reaction to Alex Jones when he was on The View.... It was just god awful. If you ever seen the clip of Alex on The View, it's legendary, one of the funniest things he's ever done. And O&A played with straight, didn't even crack jokes, and they got angry that he was talking about the TSA molesting people. Lol, it was a total lost opportunity because they refused to joke along with the bit. They sucked all the humor out of what is one of the funniest things The DMAN has ever seen.
