Yeah it was definitely a Cronenberg wannabe film. Way too long. Way too many long scenes involving the “stabilizer fluid” injections. I started to get very annoyed with the film midway through.

I just couldn't get past the retarded premise. The whole point was surely that Demi Moore's character wanted to experience being young and beautiful again and I assumed that's what the Mtn Dew she pumped into herself was going to do but instead she shit another girl 30 years younger out of her back, who apparently is a totally separate entity who doesn't share her consciousness at all but they're "one" somehow?

Also there are so many plot holes it's almost pointless pointing them out. Apparently Demi Moore's character is massively famous but has nobody in her life who notices she's gone literally half the time. Same thing for the younger girl, Sue :image_9253:. Also she's living in some gigantic mansion in Hollywood Hills but also has a neighbor six feet from her front door like some cramped NYC apartment? It's just stupid.

The makeup was good and there were a few decent laughs but overall it was just another overhyped, schlocky, style over substance movie of which there've been many this year.

I really liked it. I was able to suspend disbelief considering it's about a magic drug that lets you birth another person out of your back. The most unbelievable part was a woman being able to build a secret tomb inside her bathroom to stash her old self in. Yeah, there's some retarded parts, but the practical effects they used to turn her into a hideous monster were very well done. Very gross. I wouldn't call it style over substance either because the social commentary, while very blunt at times, all lands pretty successfully.

One thing that kinda irked me was why everyone loved Demi for her stupid fuckin jazzercise show. I guess it was supposed to be a statement about how vapid and shitty mainstream entertainment is? Zoomers are retarded but the Richard Simmons format guided exercise show is a distinctly boomer phenomenon. It was difficult to believe younger audiences would give a shit about Sue's show in that regard.

I think the exercise show was part of her declining status. It was mentioned Demi was an “Oscar winner” at some point so I assumed having to do a morning TV jazzercise program hinted at her decline. But maybe I’m way off

I took it as being part of that stylized world. It portrayed the show as being the biggest thing in the world.
