Watched The Killer (2023)

Pretty good. I'm a yuge fan of Fincher. You know where the story is going, but it's still a good time getting there. I got some serious No Country For Old Men vibes, and I think that's one of the best movies made this century.


Pros: Fassbender, the sound design, it's wonderfully shot and framed. The fight scene with the Brute is something I normally wouldn't enjoy but it's really well done.

Cons: Tilda Swinton as a whiskey drinking assassin. I get it she's a strong lady. She's not your average gal.

Cool. Didn't even know about this one. Fincher is a solid director (really original take) but I'd kinda forgotten good directors even exist. Fassbender is usually pretty good but, again, someone who vanished from thought after the Alien prequels.

Fassbender? More like... something else.

I thought she came across as a knife/poison type of assassin. A sophisticated lady who could easily move among the rich and powerful.

The fight scene with the Brute is something I normally wouldn't enjoy but it's really well done.

A few minutes into the fight I said out loud, "This is the greatest fist fight I've ever seen."

It succeeded at being tongue-in-cheek (for a Fincher movie) but mostly failed to be entertaining. Not very memorable and not rewatchable.

I thought she came across as a knife/poison type of assassin. A sophisticated lady who could easily move among the rich and powerful.

When I saw her name in the cast I was worried that she'd give the main character a tougher fight than the Brute and the plot would immediately collapse under the weight of the usual "females can kick ass too" bullshit. So was glad that didn't happen.

Ya I mentioned the sound design, I'm not huge smiths fan but the scene where the sound was flipping between the Killers earbuds playing How Soon is Now and ambient noise is one of my favorite things about the movie. My wife, who likes the Smiths, was half watching and said "this guy has great taste in music." I asked her if she meant the killer or the director and she said both

I didn't mean how she killed people, more in her personality. Maybe it's just me, but every woman I know who said she loved whiskey just said it to try to be one of the boys and couldn't drink it for real. Bc women are stupid and just always try to fit in
