Finally watched The First Slam Dunk. Been waiting for this one since they announced and it's based on one of my favourite manga so expectations were high. After seeing the trailer I wasn't sure about the animation but in the film it works amazingly.

Inoue, the mangaka, himself directed it and not only did he do a great job at it, he was able to do some really interesting creative changes that worked for the film but probably wouldn't have if it someone else was behind it.
The two big changes being 1) the choice to not adapt one of the story arcs from the manga but instead having the entire film being one of their games and 2) changing who the protagonist is from the manga to the movie so this film is from the perspective of one of the manga's side characters.
I don't give a shit about sports at all but the manga and this film is so well done you can't help but love it.

Probably one of, if not the, best recent film I've seen in years.

Cuz, this is weird. Allying themselves with Germany and killing Communists was a solid bit but everything post war the Japanese have done has been pretty gay and faggot. This included.
