Watched God's Lonely Man (1996)

[Professor Rape]

Was recommended by @Prison Enjoyer as a 90s version of Taxi Driver set in LA.

I'd say it's more disturbing than Taxi Driver, the "showdown" at the end in particular. The main character is nowhere near as cool as Travis Bickle which does make it more realistic though.

Another thing that makes it more realistic compared to Taxi Driver is Travis spends his time at home working out and planning shit, whereas this guy just does drugs.

I really love independent 90s LA films, there's something so good about that aesthetic. Another film with what I'm talking about is Johnny 316 although it's way more artsy.

I got 1 hour into it, it's pretty good kinda like the Machinist + Taxi Driver, the main guy fits the role well with his half-normal, half-disturbed look about him & the stuttering in everything he says. IDK why the porno store owner dad of the girl who works/hangs around the porno store gets mad at him asking her out, she's not exactly a princess set apart from the cum-stained floors.

Will finish it after work, thanks Prof. Rape! I like da Taxi Driver but didn't want to watch Uber Driver or whatever a current one would be so the 90s are a good compromise.

This movie says nigger and faggot, in that first half hour, so it's two thumbs up so far
