It might be my favourite Coen film but I always see it talked about as one of the worst ones.

The Brad Pitt death scene was probably as close to a realistic caught by surprise shooting as you can possibly get.

It was also fucking hilarious. His sheepish expression when caught. I howled!

It might be my favourite Coen film but I always see it talked about as one of the worst ones.

Even if it is one of their worst, it’s still an above average movie overall. It’s one of their most misanthropic movies and has some great moments with very hateable characters

I actually didn't mind it. The Josh Brolin character was based on a real guy, as was the Blanchett character. 50s Hollywood was a weird place. A lot of red scare stuff, paranoia, fixers, commies, right wing jew studio heads, scandal sheets, starlets getting backroom abortions etc. I thought the movie captured the time and place well, through the typical kooky Coen lens
