Finally saw this last night.

I really enjoyed the first half of the movie and the final “encounter”.

Fede nailed the aesthetic and vibe of the first film which I appreciated greatly. I also enjoyed the practical effects but of course it’s all CGI-augmented which seems to be inescapable now.

The fan service was pretty out of control towards the end. We didn’t need repeated lines of dialogue or almost verbatim scenes from the first 3 films.

He really tried to synthesize elements of all three original films and Prometheus/Covenant here which was interesting in a way but I felt held back the story from possibly exploring new space.

i had some major gripes with the idea of this outpost being decommissioned/abandoned - WY would never do that. I also thought it needed a little more setup for why this 19 year old can use a company space shuttle as he pleases.

But most of all, I realized that I missed Ridley Scott’s inept old man philosophizing. For all my complaints about Prometheus and Covenant, he recognized that the Xenomorph is just a one-dimensional monster. WY, synthetics, hamfisted religious ideations, at least those are an attempt at exploring something greater than scifi horror, which the first film already did so perfectly that it didn’t need to be explored further with this creature.

Prometheus and the engineers, then covenant and the insane AI was the most interesting parts of this franchise, but obviously people just want muh monster movie.

I will watch this though, I’ve heard enough good things about it, all say first half is good second half isn’t but generally worth watching.

There are good moments in the second half but my primary issue with it is that the first half is his own original movie. The second half is where he becomes all reverential and starts paying homage to concepts, scenes, and ideas from the other movies.

I’m aware of the “bitch” line which makes me cringe just hearing about it

Unsarcastically, unironically, can you recommend any Arab / Islamic scifi?
That its unsarcastic is hilarious...the ONLY arabic scifi I recall from memory were dubbed' anime.

This one I followed from ep 1 to the finale (best anime series IMO but it did not age well with a second watch):

"Junkar"

Another one was "Grandizer"

Nobody cares. You just like to hear yourself talk.

Which is weird because you have a lisp and your voice sucks.

That's like synthesizing your sandwich with a tapeworm. Prometheus fucking stunk and Covenant seemed to be more of the same.

Not like just carbon copying the Alien movies is that much better but at least in that case you're betting on a winning horse instead of the one with three legs.

i love that karaoke machine style music in old anime credits. nowadays it's often extremely gay metalcore music

All he takes from Prometheus / Covenant is the black goop and its mutagenic effect. There is a hybrid alien + human + engineer creature at the end. It’s probably the scariest part of the movie.

Fuck what anyone says. Prometheus was great and I'll die on that hill.

I agree. I dislike a lot of things about it but he was really on to a good concept with the synthetics and the desire to meet God. In fact I think if they just removed the need to tie it in to Alien at all it could have been genuinely great.

The sense of mystery about the xenomorph was cool, it tied together well.

The thing is most movie goers are Patrick Tomlinson types who want MONSTER IN SPACE!!! and nothing else.

You could do something interesting with those ideas but they were very poorly executed in the movie. It was written by a nobody and the guy that made Lost. Scott himself has been known to have an ego and some quite boneheaded takes when it comes to movies he directed. The end result is a script that doesn't really work well on any level.

The point of the movie is to ask the question of "what if we met our Creator?" and it does so by just flat out literally stating that question, and it doesn't follow up on it. Not like you need answers for anything when dealing with a subject like that, but you should actually explore it a bit and do some showing instead of telling. Especially when the rest of the plot is quite weak in its own right.

The dumb fucking CGI ruined what could have been an alright movie. Bringing Ash back but with horrible CGI - Why?? Who needs that?? There's been a bunch of different androids, why did I have to suffer through the abomination of CGI Ian Holm?? Also, the CGI they used of the main bitch floating in space at the end looked terrible. Also also, they doubled down on the fake goo bullshit. Egg > facehugger > chestburtser > monster is enough "life cycle". Stop trying to fix what isn't broken!

It shouldn't be hard to make a good Alien movie. Just do AlienS 2: Space Marines vs Aliens. No faggot black goo, no deep religious allegory, no weird new alien hybrid - just pulse rifles (that don't fucking auto-aim), smart guns, and marines & drop ships that look like they belong in Nam.
