I know that's kind of a dumb take but I do. It took itself less seriously and the shitty Sesame Street looking set made me laugh. I expected to see Oscar the Grouch at some point. The supporting cast was also really good

wiki says Louie was "inspired" by Norman Lear sitcoms, so probably intentional. It's kind of creepy, so I'm sure it didn't help the show's popularity but it makes me laugh

I remember thinking it was really funny when I was 14 and it just came out. It was definitely way less pretentious than Louie would become.

Jim didn't even understand why Lucky Louie was funny. He just knew Louis CK gets laughs, so his show must be funny. The fact Norm's jokes on the Saget roast went over his head higher than a jet tell you everything about how well Jim understands comedy.

Another thing, Sepinwall was pretty accurate in his review. The show wasn't a good fit for HBO, which is why they cancelled it after one season.
I like how Jim thought he had a gotcha in The Office being stolen from England. When Sepinwall corrects him that it was "bought", Jim acts like he's using a weasel word because Jim is too dumb to understand licensing agreements, or even notice Gervais and Merchant are credited as creators and executive producers.

I think a lot of it is just good ol contrarianism, but it's wasn't great. There was funny shit in it, but a lot of it comes from how much entertainment you get from someone screaming "FAGGOT!"
