Not to be mean but I think one of the reasons Niki has stuck with him so long is that they’ve been enabling one another’s alcoholism for over a decade. It’s daunting for active addicts to ponder the possibility of having to find a new partner who would cheerfully put up with their drinking. Any remotely mentally healthy person would see the way each of them drink and know they are more trouble than they could possibly be worth. If they go through with a final split they’ll both end up with fellow alcoholics.
