Its such a weird show. Its like a seinfeld spinoff but unfunny and in a weird time capsule of the year 2000.

Lots of seinfeld references.. for example the doctor with glasses always on his head from seinfeld is in it, still playing the doctor character.

I believe it would have done well if it was just about kramers character but they keep having these huge unfunny subplots with nobodies.

Actually, a sitcom about a washed-up old sitcom star who has to spend the rest of his life apologizing for screaming "nigger" in a comedy club could be a really fun premise. They could maybe get that fag from Big Bang Theory for the lead, as you can't hire Michael Richards, what with the nigger thing and all.

I remember Sam Simon called into the Stern show after the "incident" to discuss his time working as a consultant on the Michael Richards Show.

It was originally supposed to be way more like a "Columbo" type workplace comedy before NBC execs completely overhauled the show to make the main character essentially Kramer 2.0 (which infuriated Michael Richards).

Sam said Richards was a complete psycho on the set: he constantly fought with the show runner and threatened his life. He would do weird shit like do handstands in the middle of the shoots, physically hurt himself doing prat falls because "the pain made it funny", & would yell at the live studio audience.

Sam said he was completely cracking because of the post Seinfeld pressure and because NBC gutted his original idea of the show to milk more Kramer.

But the backstage show of him being a psycho on set sounds fucking hilarious.
