This was as far as I got before it became a chore.

If there's one good thing I can say about the show it's this: It started off great. I haven't seen many better depictions of society in the process of falling apart. The vignettes with people talking about the virus at the start of the 1st 2 eps and the escape from the city parts really give you the "everythings fucked" vibe.

Aside from that it's nonstop shoehorned LGBT shit and hammed up performances in an idea that's been done to death. I'm a big zombie/end of the world guy and I hated this shit. Not everyone in the apocalypse needs to be gay, although it does explain the handwringing and making every wrong decision available. The rock face girl is terrible at acting. I hadn't played the game before I watched it and I'm way less likely to now.

I mean the main actress is now "non binary" and insists on being called "them" but other than that, the show is perfectly true to the source material......other than Joel being Hispanic, Tommy being Hispanic, Marie being black, Joel's daughter being Hispanic (I think)... but other than than that... perfectly true to the game!

I thought the show was fine overall. The gay couple episode was easily the worst of the series and its ecstatic reception was very alienating for me. Like, what was I missing? I still am not sure. Anecdotally, gay people I know were also confused by its reception. I think it's an example of something that makes straight people feel good about themselves for accepting faggots as humans being confused for actual quality.
